Aftercare Instructions
DAY 1: Immediately after your procedure, the area may feel tender and will appear bolder than the final result. Minor swelling and bruising or redness may persist for 1-2 days following the procedure. Your technician will apply a light sealant to protect the skin from bacteria. For the next couple weeks, you must commit to taking good care of the treated area, and protect it against exposure to sun, water, sweat, heat, and touch.
60 minutes after the service concludes, lightly wash the eyebrows with the After Soap provided to you in your aftercare kit ( or with very mild soap). After drying, apply a very thin layer of aftercare ointment (Aquaphor or A&D ointment can also be used) to the treated area using a fresh Q-Tip or clean fingertip. If you notice lymph fluid beading up on the skin, gently blot the area with a clean, soft tissue. Gently wash the brows again before bed if it has been more than 2 hours since you washed them for the first time, and follow with another thin layer of ointment after they have been dried.
-Do not rub, scrub, or slide over the tattooed area, and never apply ointment over the brow while it’s still wet.
DAYS 2-14:
-Brows may be washed gently with mild soap 1-2 times each day (typically morning and night) for the next 14 days. To do so, wash your hands, then lightly dampen your fingertips with cool water, and apply the soap gently in the direction of the hair growth. Remove soap after cleansing, and pat dry with a clean paper towel to ensure that brows are completely dry before reapplying the healing ointment. Be cautious not to touch tattooed area with dirty hands and avoid exposure to debris as it is an open healing wound, and infection control is important.
-Avoid allowing the tattooed area to stay wet for too long, as the moisture will cause the scabs to get soggy and fall off prematurely. Allow the scabs to remain for as long as possible and let them fall off naturally.
-Continue applying the aftercare ointment on the treated area 2-3 times a day. Please note that typically brows appear darker as healing scabs begin to form.
-Do not pick, pull, or scratch off the scabs that have formed, let them fall off naturally. Doing so can cause scarring, loss of pigment, or infection.
-Avoid sleeping on your face or in a position where contact is made with the treated area. The friction and pressure can cause scabs to lift prematurely and lead to loss of pigment. Additionally, avoid allowing any other things (hats, headbands, glasses, hair/bangs) to touch the brows during the healing stage.
-Avoid sweating until all the scabs have come off naturally, as sweat can push the pigment out of the skin before it’s had a chance to encapsulate, resulting in loss of color. Clients who tend to be more naturally warm or sweat without exercising may need additional touchup work in the future.
- When showering, avoid facing the shower stream, and allow water to flow down the back of your head when rinsing shampoos and conditioners. Hot water/steam will cause pores to open even further and pigment can flush/fall out as it is open until the new skin encapsulates it. Chlorinated water and saltwater will discolor and/or totally remove your pigment. Avoid long showers and baths and prolonged exposure to steam. Never submerge your brows in water for two weeks following your appointment.
-Avoid applying makeup to the treated area as the skin is open and more susceptible to infection. Makeup and makeup applicators are oftentimes contaminated with bacteria and can cause infection when introduced to the site.
-Avoid exposure to UV rays for 4 weeks following the procedure. These rays can damage the skin and alter the appearance of the tattoo dramatically.
-Avoid ‘dirty work’ during the first two weeks. Lawn mowing, gardening, cleaning out the garage, etc should wait until outer healing is complete in order to avoid introducing dirt, sweat, bacteria, and foreign objects into the skin.
- Hairstyles with bangs or other pieces that typically lay against the face must be secured away from the face during the two-week healing period, as the added friction continually brushing against the treated area will result in loss of pigment.
-On average, clients will heal 30-50% lighter than the initial implanted color. The once crisp strokes will soften, and those with oily skin may show more blurring of detail than those with drier skin. More detail work, final color modifications, and finishing touches are done in subsequent sessions.
-Avoid receiving facial beauty treatments, Botox, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion for 4 weeks post procedure, and always be sure to inform your future beauty technicians that you’ve had this service done. Smoking also prohibits the skin’s ability to heal properly, so it is advised to avoid doing so.
-Oftentimes the tattooed area will appear to be slightly different each day during the healing period. This is normal part of healing. The surface of the skin will appear to be healed after about 2 weeks, but the tattoo will continue to heal internally until about 6 weeks, and it’s at that time that the result is closer to your “final” color. Remember that it may take multiple sessions to arrive at your ‘happy place’, but adjustments cannot be made until it is healed in 4-6 weeks.
-Please note that results will vary with each individual as they are almost entirely dependent on the internal body chemistry, health, immune system, and skin type of each person, as well as their care during the healing process. It may take more than one session to achieve the desired results.
Contact a physician if any signs or symptoms develop such as the following: fever, redness at the site, swelling, tenderness of the procedure site, elevated body temperature, red streaks going from the procedure site towards the heart, and/or any green/yellow discharge that is foul in odor
ONCE FULLY HEALED:
-To protect the longevity of your tattoo, it is recommended to avoid facial products containing ingredients that can lighten and fade the microblading. Some examples of ingredients to avoid include: Hydrogen Peroxide, Benzoyl Peroxide, Glycolic acid, Retinol, Vitamin C and E, and fruit acids.
-Salt water and chlorine can deteriorate the pigment and lighten the tattoo. Rinse well with water after contact. Similarly, UV rays will also fade and discolor the tattoo quickly, so wearing sunscreen SPF 50 is advised, as well as protection with sunglasses and/or hats.
-If you are having any laser or facial beauty treatments in the future, please inform your technician beforehand that you have received this service.
-This is a semi-permanent treatment that typically fades in 1-3 years depending on your skin, health, and lifestyle. If you have oily skin, an iron deficiency, or a very strong immune system your pigment will not last as long and will not heal as crisp as others. Touchups are necessary to maintain the longevity and overall beauty of the tattoo. The frequency of touchups will differ for each individual.
